Baccarat For Dummies

Many people are put off from playing baccarat due to the apparent complexity of its rules. They may have read about all the sequences of cards and how it is decided if more than two cards are dealt to each player and come to the decision that it is all far too complicated to remember.

They are correct about the complexity, but they are incorrect about it being a difficult game as baccarat is one of the easiest card games to play, especially if you are playing it online.

The historical reason for the complexity of baccarat rules is simply to prevent any form of cheating or card counting and an attempt to create an entirely random game. So if you are a baccarat dummy then simply forget about the rules as they are completely irrelevant. All you need to know is how to bet.

You place your bet and two cards are initially dealt to the bank and the player (which are just positions on the table). More cards may or may not follow and the winner is announced.

If you bet on the player or bank then your chances of winning are just a little under 50% and you get paid at even money if you win. If you bet on a tie then the chances of winning are about 9.5% and if you win then you get paid at either 8 times or 9 times your original stake depending on the particular casino.

The major advantage of baccarat compared to other online casino games is that the house edge on bank and player bets is very low, being 1.06% and 1.24% respectively. If the casino is paying 8 to 1 on a tie, then the house edge is 14.4% which is very poor, though much better if the casino pays 9 to 1.

The best way to win is the bet just on the bank but there is very little difference between that and betting on the player if you prefer to do so.
